Indiana Solo Competition

The Indiana chapter of the American String Teachers Association is sponsoring a State Solo Competition for violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp and classical guitar. The INASTA Competition will serve as the preliminary round for the ASTA National Solo Competition, which will be held at the ASTA convention in Atlanta in March 2009. INASTA will hold a live competition hosted by Indiana University/Bloomington on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Applications to the state division should be postmarked no later than October 4, 2008. The INASTA Competition will follow the ASTA National Solo Competition guidelines exactly. Please review these guidelines at: www.astaweb.com

There are two divisions in this competition: Junior (open to musicians under the age of 19 as of March 18, 2009) and Senior (open to musicians ages 19-25 as of March 18, 2009). Monetary prizes will be awarded to the winners in both divisions. Winners will be asked to perform at the INASTA Annual meeting held at the IMEA Convention in Indianapolis on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Multiple finalists from both divisions may be chosen to be semi-finalists in the National Solo Competition. All participants chosen to send a CD to the semi-final round will send their materials to arrive no later than noon on November 13, 2008 to the state competition chair, who will forward all materials to the national chapter. All participants must be studying with a teacher who is an active member of ASTA, or be members themselves. Information about joining INASTA can also be found at www.astaweb.com.
